Optimizing The Performance Of Ship’s Service To Improve The Performance Of Operational Service (Study On The Port Of Old Sampit)

Prime service is very important for improving seaport services. The improvement of seaport services is not only seen from the port facilities, but it should also be seen from the ship service performance. This study aims to see the optimization of ship services at the port of old Sampit which is maintained as a conventional cargo and passenger port, although a container terminal port of Bagendang has been developed. This research is to formulate and implement the service strategies for cargo ships and passenger ships with more refined service system and procedures in accordance with the existing condition of the port of Sampit which is located in the urban area. The research method is collecting secondary data, that is the data of ship’s arrival performance in the period of December 2015 to April 2016. The results of this research show that the port of Sampit as a conventional port still has a very important role to drive cargo and people movement in the area of Sampit. The local government as the development authority needs to improve the quality of old Sampit port service to be the port having economic competitiveness with integrated local transportation infrastructures, although it is geographically very difficult to expand this port area.
