Assessment of the Conformity of Traditional Ship’s Capacity and Engine Power: A Statistical Approach

As a nation's cultural heritage, Government committed to maintain traditional shipping preservation. Various studies had been carried out especially in technological aspects so as to guarantee safety and security as well as service improvement. Some of them are safety equipment standards, certification, machinery and so on. The authors then conducted research related to the conformity of engine power and ship’s capacity. Data and informations collected were analyzed using statistical methods to determine the composition of main engine power used in accordance with the traditional ship's capacity. By statistical aproach, result of this research indicated that variable capacity or ship dimensions affected the engine power. However, there were still external factors should be considered such as wave, wind and raw material of the ship which is entirely wood, therefore the engine power needs to be adjusted to these factors. furthermore, current phenomenon regarding the use of automotive engines for ships needed to be watched so as not to cause accidents at sea.
