Development of Coastal Protection Structure in Karawang Coastal Area of Indonesia
The Karawang coastal area of Indonesia was previously planned to build a sea port, but it was canceled. What is
the actual condition of the Karawang coastal areas? What are the hydrooceanographic conditions and have there been
any physical changes to the coast? What coastal protection structures can protect the physical changes of the Karawang
coast? These questions are problems that require special handling, for example by building coastal protection structures
(groynes, jetties, revetments, seawalls, breakwaters). The purpose of this study was to identify hydrooceanographic
conditions, physical changes to the Karawang coast, plan a coastal protection structure and determine the type of coastal
protection structure suitable for the Karawang coast. The research data was obtained through bathymetric surveys,
coastlines, currents, waves and tides which were validated by Ground Check Points (GCP). The results of the analysis
show that the appropriate type of coastal protection structure is a breakwater and groyne structure, because it can reduce
the overflow of waves that occur, so that the beach is protected from the onslaught of destructive waves.
