Safety Riding Behavior among Students in Bekasi, Indonesia


Abstract— The purpose of the research is to determine and analyze the safety riding behavior among students of two Public Senior High
Schools (SMAN), which are SMAN 6 and SMAN 8 in Bekasi, Indonesia. The reason why the research was conducted was that the high number
of road traffic accidents in Bekasi. Another problem was unsafe riding behaviors committed by students while riding a bike. Human errors had
to be the dominant factor leading to road traffic accidents since people were lack of awareness about safe riding behaviors. The research was
conducted at SMAN 6 and SMAN 8 Bekasi, using a quantitative approach and employing factor analysis with 179 students as a sample. The
data was collected by distributing statement letters with a tested Likert Scale model. The result shows that there is a correlation between
students’ awareness and safety riding behavior; there is a correlation between students’ attitude and safety riding behavior; there is a
correlation between students’ perception between safety riding behavior; there is a correlation between the role of students’ peers and safety
riding behavior, and there is no correlation between participating on training and safety riding behavior.
