The widespread uptake of new technologies has been a significant feature of contemporary agricultural development in Indonesia. And government pricing, marketing, and input supply policies as well as public investment in the generation and extension of new agricultural technologies have all played a substantial role in this regard. But at this stage in the country's economic development, the future orientation of Indonesia's public policy stance toward agriculture is coming under closer scrutiny by both the domestic policy making and international donor communities alike. After several decades of sustained and broadly based economic growth the agricultural sector now accounts for one fifth of gross domestic product (GDP), compared with a third of GDP just two decades ago.
