Do Passengers’ Knowledge Affect on Flight Safety?


Lithium batteries that are now widely used can
ndeed explode if exposed to excessive heat or short curcuit. Now not only smartphones or laptops, Powerbank devices and drones also use batteries and are often taken to travel.Therefore on April 1, 2016 the International Civil Aviation Organization
ICAO) decided to ban cargo in the form of lithium-ion batteries in passenger aircraft, even for bringing it into cabin, Lithium Powerbank has a capacity limit requirement that must be obeyed by all passengers who carry it in order to prevent and protect cabin crew and aircraft passengers from current risks to flight safety. The purpose of this study is to examine how much the level of knowledge of passengers about the safety of the use of Lithium Powerbank on Flight, because there are still many passengers who carry goods that contain Lithium Powerbank in the cabin or luggage that exceeds the capacity. The results of this study indicate that passengers who use flight services know enough about safety standards regarding the use of Lithium Powerbank on flights. However, there is still much needed counseling and tighter checks and more about Lithium Powerbank safety standards on flights so
that flight safety, especially in Indonesia, increases and reduces the rate of accidents / explosions especially caused by Lithium Powerbank. This study uses semi-quantitative methods that focus only on lithium battery types of Powerbank devices. So for the research it can analyze about the other devices of lithium battery.
